'Boats' The Robert R. Johnson Story

Robert R. Johnson sailed on a square-rigged sailing ship as a 15-year-old. He craved the sea and adventure. He found both in a 20-year career in the U.S. Navy. During that time, he served in three Antarctic expeditions: the United States Antarctic Service Expedition (1939-41), Operation Highjump (1946-47) and Operation Windmill(1947-48). As of 2012, he is the only living person to have served in all three of those expeditions.

'Boats' Johnson's service spanned the eras when Antarctic exploration transitioned from small private expeditions using wood-hulled ships to large, modern government expeditions using military support. (2 DVDs, 100 minutes)
